6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

 

 

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a deep-dish pie plate or a 9×9 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer.

In another bowl mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt for topping. Add cold cubed butter; use your fingers or pastry cutter to work into dry ingredients until mixture is crumbly like coarse meal.

Sprinkle this over apple mixture in baking dish so covering it completely.

Put baking dish in preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes or until topping is golden brown and juices bubble up around sides of pan.
